The technology landscape across the world has been seeing a sea-change over the last decade, and the trend seems to continue unabated today. These include the unprecedented growth in use of mobile computing devices, arrival of tablets and touch screens, large number of tools and techniques making web application development easier and faster, faster and faster communication mechanisms, and so on. The field of education has started using most of these (and more) in an effort to exploit them in enhancing the reach and effectiveness of educational resources.

As a result, in the last few years we have seen a number of ideas flooding the field of education, with many of them leaving successful results. These include

  • Massively Open Online Courses (MOOC)

  • Open Education Resources Movement

  • Assessment technologies including online examinations

  • Movement of administrative functions into web based online form, in turn, facilitating online learning

  • Personalisation of instruction and assessment,

  • Technologies like virtual reality, augmented reality, emotion recognition, etc.

There are also a number of issues relating to management aspects of technology in education that are critical for success. The changes and impact can be felt from school education to adult learning and vocational courses, to varying degrees. Emerging fields like learner analytics offer deeper insights and patterns relating to the teaching-learning practice.

Against this backdrop of the world developments, this symposium will bring a number of experts related to this field together, to debate and discuss on the current trends, the challenges ahead and the future directions, specifically for India. The symposium will have only invited talks and one/two panel discussions, covering topics related to Technology, Education and Management.
